The best of Italian Design

Using design code UNIQUE

Breaking free of stereotypes

In April 2020 UNIQ∙Ǝ! launched a project aimed at a group of designers and architects focussing on creating a revolutionary faucet concept that had the strength to completely liberate itself from the formal stereotypes and interpret the new paradigm that 3D technology makes possible.

Studio Dodo Arslan

Loft Canova

Pasquale Piroso

Pasquale Piroso, who graduated in architecture under Prof. Paolo Portoghesi and with whom he collaborated on projects of national importance, founded his own architecture studio in Palazzo Canova, the historic studio of the renowned sculptor Antonio Canova. Here he cares for the restoration of the sculptor’s gallery and develops ambitious projects, always concentrating on the dialogue between art, interior design and lighting design. The essence of each project relies on the development of technology and the relationship between material, light and art. The stylistic signature of Pasquale Piroso and Studio Loft Canova is the “poetics of listening to the location”, the ability to immerse oneself in context and apprehend its innermost nature, giving life to genuine projects dedicated to beauty. There are many publications in architecture magazines that archive the projects he has accomplished and achieved.

Gerardo Sannella

Gerardo Sannella graduated in architecture at the University of Florence in 1997. In 1998, he moved to Great Britain where he worked in several London Architectural Practices and in 2001 won the Bovis Lend Lease Award for architecture at the Royal Academy in London. In 2002 Sannella returned to Milan as Director of an international firm and worked on different types of projects ranging from retail to luxury residential. In 2012, with Giovanni Feltrin and Yolanda Velasco, he founded MYGG which combines different but complementary expertise covering residential, retail, office, hospitality up to customer product design. MYGG is a young innovative studio of architecture based in Milan, Italy whose projects have been published in the best international journals and newspapers.

Daniele Lo Scalzo Moscheri

Milan-based architectural and design Studio DLSM has a 35-year history in developing international interior projects, products, graphic designs and video productions, in addition to being responsible for the artistic direction of some of the most influential design companies. Driven by Daniele Lo Scalzo Moscheri, the practice distinguishes itself by combining expertise and proficiency with a tailored approach, authenticating both a stylistic code and visual identity, clearly and instantly recognizable. The studio’s work is inspired by a sense of rigor and simplicity and is characterized by a regard to detail, coherence and elegance with particular attention to proportion and harmony. “Our design practice is led by authenticity and awareness with the aim to deliver solutions of timeless beauty.”

An intense co-design process

in which UNIQ∙Ǝ!, with its valuable experience in faucet production, acted as supervisor to the development of the proposed ideas, enriching the project with practical and functional observations that led to the creation of more and more refined prototypes, ever preserving the guidance of its creative thinking.

A smooth, uninterrupted line like water. A pure, minimal, timeless design. A creative design process that, starting from infinite possibilities, reaches essentiality. ISCLA is the island where this journey is destined. A range of faucets where technology encounters style: streamlined shapes and integrated controls, to incorporate their functions even more beautifully and effectively.

ISCLA is our momentum towards the future. The outcome of a continuous experimentation that has allowed technology to be embedded into the product’s soul, almost to the point of making it invisible. One more step towards the revolution.

Fior di Loto

FIOR DI LOTO originated from the formal research of expressive simplicity, inspired by the basic element which carries water: a simple tube that turns into an object and therefore into a small sculpture. The alliance and the perfect contraposition between a technical element and a geometrical one in addition to natural elements, are the formal result of our research.

The 3D technology has facilitated the research and proposition of a new water supply concept which conquers the traditional limitations dictated by the existing technology. The objective was to obtain a simple and legible shape, and at the same time, astound viewers from the surprise of its functional purpose, enhancing the unique and essential technology of the project.

INK is a faucet born from the idea of transforming a liquid movement of a circular ink brushstroke into a steady and implacable sign in which hot and cold water flow can find their eternal balance. The circle, as a new shape of the faucet, erases the prosaic story of this common object, in order to renovate it, capturing the poetic spirit of the primeval struggle between cold and heat as it eternally springs from the earth.

The absoluteness of the circle interprets the stable power of the cosmic balance. Following the clash between hot and cold, the outlet gushes the now-pacified water from a bamboo spout, the most natural, almost human part of this product. The water offers itself like a fountain stream pouring wellness and new life into human hands.

MIRELLA’s source of inspiration derives from the simplicity of material transformation, that is to say stainless steel, which through UNIQ-Ǝ!’s 3D manufacturing, becomes easy to model and transform, like long, braided hair blowing in the wind. The project is an homage to the beauty of femininity and its sinuosity, as well as the possibility of being able to dare to shape its form, while using a manufacturing technology that has no processing waste.

Professionals create each project, inspired by mere gestures, which both reflect and encompass meaning and reason to its story. These are the foundations to imagine a new era and create new shapes, concepts and meanings. When you create a new product, the concept must state its purpose, without forgetting its duty as a communicative object of emotion and pleasure.

MANTA stems from a deep study and exploration of aquatic creatures that live in a fluid environment, taking cues from their intuitive underwater characteristics and distinctive features. The manta ray anatomy is designed to be integrated with water; a flat, elegant creature gifted with a unique, streamlined body that enables its agility and manoeuvrability within the marine environment.

Solely and exclusively using innovative 3D technology, MANTA is able to trascend from a common faucet design concept to and organic form with idiosyncratic design inspirations, further incorporating an invisible outlet for the water flow. MANTA is a timeless object intended for an audience that loves formal elegance and uniqueness.

These projects have been for us a research experience that has only just begun and we do not know where it will take us.

We certainly know that we are only at the beginning and that we are searching for travel companions who want to explore new, untraveled territory, able to astound us and, above all, [astound] those who will be able to experience these new solutions in their own homes
